COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Mauritius (11 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Mauritian nationals and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreign citizens travelling to Mauritius for long stays are allowed to enter Mauritius.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • No

  • Transit through Mauritius is not allowed.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All travellers are subject to health screenings at entry points, which includes a temperature check as one of the health screening measures.

  • Any passenger entering the country will have to undergo COVID-19 PCR test on the day of arrival, on the 7th day, and on day 14. If found positive on any of these tests, the traveller will be transferred to a public medical institution for further treatment.

  • COVID-19 testing facility is available at the C-Lab laboratory at Wellkin Hospital on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 to 12:00.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Passengers arriving at Mauritius must have a negative COVID-19 PCR report for a test performed between five to seven days prior to the departure date.

  • Departing passengers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test report obtained within five days (120 hours) prior to departure from Mauritius.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • Anyone entering Mauritius will be quarantined for 14 days and will have to undergo multiple COVID-19 tests.

  • This reservation measure will remain in effect until mid-January 2021.

  • Non-Mauritians have to pay a fee to their respective hotels for the mandatory testing and quarantine requirements.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • Passengers are required to complete a form agreeing to COVID-19 testing and quarantine measures required by the Mauritius government. Passengers must have a copy of this signed form and the PCR test certificate in order to board. The form can be found here.

  • Arriving passengers are required to fill out a Passenger Locator Form and a Passenger Health Self – Declaration Form.

Airline restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Commercial international flights have resumed operations.

  • Passengers showing symptoms such as fever, cough, and sneezing will not be allowed to board any flight.

  • For passengers above 11 years, a sufficient number of surgical masks (one for every four hours) must be carried throughout the flight duration and the airport.

  • Airline crew may be required to isolate on arrival and until their departure flight.

  • Some commercial flights are operating to and from Rodrigues (autonomous outer island of Mauritius).

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Borders have reopened.

  • A renewable premium visa or long-term visa valid for one year has been implemented by the government for remote workers, digital nomads and retirees.
