Onderzoekers van het Minnesota Department of Health hebben zojuist een studie gepubliceerd<\/a> in de Emerging Infectious Diseases Journal <\/em>waaruit bleek dat het consumeren van rauwe (ongepasteuriseerde) melk bij 1 op de 6 mensen bacteri\u00eble of parasitaire infecties veroorzaakt. Deze infecties omvatten Salmonella, E. coli en Campylobacter bacteri\u00ebn, samen met een parasitaire infectie genaamd cryptosporidiosis. Pasteurisatie is een proces waarbij melk tot een bepaalde temperatuur wordt verhit om deze of andere ziektekiemen te doden zonder de voedingswaarde van de melk aan te tasten.<\/p>\n

Tijdens een eerdere studie van de Amerikaanse Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bleek dat rauwe melk 150 keer meer kans had om ziekte te veroorzaken dan gepasteuriseerde melk, meestal diarree, buikkrampen en braken. Deze symptomen kunnen ongeveer een week of langer aanhouden, maar soms gaat het om een infectie met de E. coli-stam die nierfalen en de dood veroorzaakt. Het goede nieuws is dat de meeste mensen herstellen. Maar het slechte nieuws is dat er langdurige, ernstigere ziekte kan optreden, zoals een aandoening van het zenuwstelsel, het Guillain-Barre syndroom, of artritis met ontsteking in de gewrichten.<\/p>\n

Rauwe melk is steeds populairder geworden bij mensen die natuurlijke, onbewerkte voeding voorstaan. Sommige mensen beweren dat rauwe melk \"gezonder\" of \"gezonder met meer voedingsstoffen\" is in vergelijking met gepasteuriseerde melk, die gewoonweg niet waar<\/strong>. Sommige mensen erkennen het verhoogde gezondheidsrisico in verband met de consumptie van rauwe melk niet en minimaliseren het belang van uitbraken in verband met de consumptie van rauwe melk. Er wordt een vals gevoel van veiligheid verspreid door mensen die rauwe melk consumeren zonder een evenwichtige beoordeling van de potenti\u00eble risico's en de eventuele voordelen ervan.<\/p>\n

Het is belangrijk dat u de risico's kent en begrijpt voordat u of uw kinderen rauwe melk consumeren.
