COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Antigua & Barbuda (7 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreigners are allowed to enter.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes

  • Transit is allowed. All arrivals, including transiting passengers, must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test certificate issued no more than seven days prior to their flight. Children 12 and under are exempt from this requirement.

  • Transiting passengers/crew members who need an overnight stay must proceed to a government-designated space or hotel to await departure.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • Travellers may be required to undergo testing for COVID-19 on arrival or at their hotel or place of lodging. Visitors may be required to pay for this testing.

  • All arriving passengers will have a medical screening and a temperature check performed on arrival at each port of entry.

  • Entrants by sea are subject to assessment for symptoms through a series of checks.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • Test certificates obtained outside of Antigua and Barbuda are accepted.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • All arrivals by air must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test certificate issued no more than seven days prior to their flight. Children 12 and under are exempt from this requirement.

  • Passengers arriving by sea are not required to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test but must enter via Nevis Street Pier in St John’s and follow the screening and quarantine instructions of Port Health.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • Travellers will be monitored for 14 days on arrival and may be subject to a quarantine period.

  • Arrivals by sea are subject to a 14-day quarantine according to guidelines issued by Port Health authorities.

Insurance required?

  • No

  • The purchase of medical insurance is at the passenger’s discretion.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • All incoming passengers must complete a health declaration form.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • The V.C. Bird Airport is open for international and regional travel.

  • All passengers are required to wear a face mask when they land.

  • LIAT Airlines resumed commercial services five days per week to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Vincent and Grenadines.

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Antigua & Barbuda borders have reopened.

  • Port authorities allow cargo vessels, ferry services, and pleasure craft to dock at Nevis Street Pier, subject to the health guidelines and regulations.

Curfew restrictions

  • A curfew is in effect from 23:00 until 05:00 (local time).

  • Authorities have extended the State of Emergency until 31 December.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Minimal

  • The government has restricted opening hours and the number of visitors at government offices that deal face-to-face with the public.

  • Face-coverings that cover the nose and mouth are mandatory in any public place, on public transportation, and for entry into markets or supermarkets. A face mask cannot be worn at the same time as head coverings or dark glasses.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Only two passengers are allowed in private vehicles unless all passengers are from the same family and household.

  • Tourists can rent cars from certified providers.

  • If you are a visitor to Antigua, travel to Barbuda is not allowed within 14 days of arrival.

  • Commercial passengers transport vehicles are permitted to operate with limited seating capacity.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Businesses with approved safety protocols are open.

  • Shops including food, clothes, pharmacies, and hardware stores from 05:00 until 21:00 (local time).

Accommodations open?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • A limited number of accommodations are open.

Restaurants open?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • In-house dining at restaurants that have passed government inspection is allowed.

Bars and cafes open?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Bars that have passed government inspection are allowed to operate.

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Public beaches are allowed to open seven days a week from 06:00 to 19:00 (local time).

Personal care services open?

  • Yes

  • Personal care services are open.

Places of worship open?

  • No

  • Places of worship are closed.

Events allowed?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Weddings, funerals, and baptisms may take place but with no more than 25 participants and with everyone keeping a distance of six feet and wearing face masks.

  • Private parties and social events hosting more than one household are prohibited.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Activities such as cycling, jogging, running, tennis, and swimming are allowed from 06:00 to 21:00 (local time).
