Has someone ever clicked your picture without your consent and you couldn’t do anything? How often have people tried to connect with you even when you simply want to enjoy that glass of cocktail and a solo travel experience?

As liberating as the experience of solo travel is, it can sometimes come with some unwanted elements or, let’s be blunt, unwanted people. Many female solo travellers have encountered being approached by people which becomes a matter of concern when you are travelling alone.

Is it therefore essential to take some preventive measures to ensure your safety. So you can travel peacefully and prevent your trip from going downhill.

  1. Keep local police numbers and other emergency contacts in Speed Dial.
  2. Check for hidden cameras.

3. Make sure your hotel room locks properly. Carry an additional door locker/ door stopper with you for extra safety.

4. Make sure people don’t click your pictures without your approval (It happens a lot!)

5. Pretend as if you are with someone, especially in your hotel.

6. Try to get the hotel’s General Manager’s contact number while you check-in. This way you may contact the one in charge in case something happens.

7. If possible, have a personal contact number and email for your social media and other personal things and another number for travel apps, hotel bookings etc. to make sure the information you share is not being abused to get more information on you.

8. Educate yourself on Section 75 on credit cards. It might help you in many ways.
