Dengue Fever - summary of cases in Uruguay

Health officials in the Minsitry of Health have registered 51 deaths and a total of 28,985 cases of dengue fever so far this year. Of these, 21,560 cases have been confirmed by laboratory testing.

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
